It's All Downhill
04:04
|
|||
Winning’s in the climb, be bold
Put in the time we’re told, you’ll
Make it to the top––where those cold, rough winds blow
Here the view is great though it’s getting late
Was warmer back at home, I’m top and on my own
If it’s all downhill from here—I’m fine with that
This peak it looked so good, seems I misunderstood
It’s all downhill from here—get me off this rock
Everything I want is still there down below
Life it’s win or lose, we’re taught, there’s
Success for just a few, so
Be ambitious, don’t slack or look back
All the money’s nice, buys vacations in paradise
But no one I can trust, it’s only me, there is no us
It’s all downhill from here—and I’m fine with that
This peak once looked so good, think I misunderstood
It’s all downhill from here—get me off this rock
Everything I want was left there down below
I thought that this was right, had to win every fight
Like clearing Kane’s estate, learn a bit too late, with
Rosebud in the flames, won it all, still lost the game
If it’s all downhill from here—I’m fine with that
The peak once looked so good, yes I misunderstood
It’s all downhill from here—I’ve had enough
Everything I want is back there, down below

Bombay Beach
04:54
|
|||
Bright sun, blue sky, distant shimmering waterline
You can’t miss that smell, sharp sting of pungent brine
(Almost there, close I swear)
Cheap food, cold beer, we come back every year
To this working man’s retreat, the last day’s always bittersweet
Hey down on Bombay Beach, my-my-my desert fantasy
Boats and beauty queens, a night’s just 20 bucks
Sweaty Salton Sea, it’s 112 degrees
No fun, the coastline is covered with warning signs
Empty motels, old bones of a better time
(True I swear, we were there)
Don’t swim, don’t sail, there’s no fish, the water’s stale
Salty tears can’t cure this mess, how it’s fixed is anybody’s guess
Hey, down on Bombay Beach, wa-wa-once a beautiful dream,
Now do not breathe, the toxic playa dust
Ain’t no surfer scene, and there’s no relief
East Jesus, Slab City, a far cry from what used to be
Hell’s Kitchen and Mullet Isle are long gone and the birds are dying
Hey, down on Bombay Beach, wa-wa-once my beautiful dream
Boats and beauty queens, a night’s just 20 bucks
Dying inland sea, she gets no relief

Salton Swell
04:08
|
|||
Fell off a truck when I was drunk
Woke up face down in the sand
Parched and dry with just my longboard
Walked for two days, it’s all a haze
Saw a sign, so hard to read, like something about a salty sea?
Don’t see no waves to ride, this ain’t no Oceanside
How many more miles of desert left?
I don’t know
Left Huntington, trip sounded fun
Bound for Pismo or Big Sur just
Wanted to find some better breaks
But my ride went east not north and
Now I’m lost and tired, but way over there water shines
Far from Pacific surf, it’s just Mojave dust
Gonna have to make the best of this Salton swell
Don’t see no waves to ride, this ain’t no Oceanside
How many more miles of desert left? I don’t know
At nearly four reached Bombay shore
Nobody’s on the beach, but I’m dug in waiting for the swell
Will is strong but the body’s weak
Cannot say that I feel fine though I’ll be here til the end of time
Far from Pacific surf, it’s just Mojave dust
Gonna have to make the best of this Salton swell
Don’t see no waves to ride, this ain’t no Oceanside
How many more miles of desert left? I don’t know

Photograph that I should know
This rocky beach, she loved it so
We would walk for miles and miles and leave no trace
They looked, but never found us
Try to hold her in my mind
Cause memories just fade in time
Once we talked for hours and hours and made no sound
They listened, but could not find us
I don’t know where we’ll go
Come to me here on this hill
Where I will wait for you until
We both stand above all we knew,
Look back, hope and laugh
They’ll weep when they can’t find us
I don’t know where we’ll go
One choice leads to another
Where we’ll go? No clue, brother
She said we’d be together
But years alone, I can’t be certain
Then in the breeze her voice so faint — “I’ll be back if you can wait’’

Look Up!
04:29
|
|||
They hit hours before the dawn
As we slept, there was no warning
Fire and tears, smoke and fear
Woke to a deadly morning
We can’t stay, but how to leave?
No plan, no instructions
Heart is racing, slow it down
Time for big decisions
We fall, we fight to stay together and alive
Why this happened one man knows, now look up it’s time to go
Slip past them on the street,
Dark shapes with cruel intentions
Outside the city, hesitate
Curse, burn with this conviction
We’ll return, drive them away
Of that you can be certain
Heal this pain we feel today
Our justice is no burden
We fall, we fight to stay together and alive
When it ends only god knows, look up, we’ve got to go
We fall, we fight to try and keep our world alive
How soon that happens I don’t know, now look up it’s time to go
Hurt by men fed with the lies
Of a dead-eyed psychopath
But from this mountain’s western side
We push, the wind’s at our back
I know, I feel so afraid, cannot conceal
There is so much we have to do, know I can because of you
We fall, we fight, to try and keep our world alive
How soon that happens no one knows, look up, lock in here we go
We fall, we fight, we make our way back to the light
It’s happening the world can see, look up now, know that you are free

Laroche-Migennes
05:05
|
|||
Left this old place, thought it was not enough for you
Still you’re back one more time
Air smells of autumn wheat, oak, soil and wine
Seems you forgot that there is still a deep — affection
And though you will not stay still it’s good to be — back home
Do not wait for answers, you bought the ticket, time to take some chances
L.A. half a world away but here with you
Right now, while crossing the canal, you know
“Je suis déjà venu ici,” as you make your way
To Rue Hallyday for Cabaret L’Escale
And the stage where years ago you played
You won’t find the answers in faded fashions from those teenage dances
Hey, get to the station, at Laroche-Migennes
Use the train that leaves at half past ten
It brings you back to where it all began
But time and history, they cloud our memories
As you move in time, between then and now
Feels both are here at once
You’ve gone but never left as you arrive today before the morning sun
California’s a dream that carried you all the way back home
There will be no answers, take the ride and see what happens
Hey, get to the station at Laroche-Migennes
Use the train that leaves at half past ten
It brought you back to where it all began
But time and history, they blur our memories
Hey, get to the station at Laroche-Migennes
I’ll be there to meet that early train
Every time you’re back it’s different but the same
Been walking in your sleep but life moves swiftly
Time and distance they do not change our history

CBCT M92
03:48
|
|||
One look and I was sure
She's the one that I’ve been looking for
That face, smile, way she moves
When she boards today gonna tell her the truth
City bus, commuter train, day after day, it’s all the same
Aisles packed with lonesome souls, I see you when I’m halfway home
Rode Metro 92
Same old route that we both use
Well she’s nowhere to be found and
Now all my dreams are crashing down
(Why didn’t talk to her? You’re too shy. You missed your chance)
City bus, commuter train, day after day, it’s all the same
Aisles packed with lonesome souls, you’re not here, I’m still on my own
I’m a rider, never been a driver
I’m a rider, never been a driver
My transit angel, wait for her arrival
Monday, riding 92 again
Can’t believe it all just slipped away
But wait, she’s back, got on at Fremont Street
She looks right at me and our eyes finally meet
City bus, commuter train, day after day, it’s all the same
Aisles packed with lonesome souls, I’ve got you and we’re going home
We all want that happy ending, for things to turn out right
Sometimes they don’t I know, but baby we caught our ride
City bus, commuter train brought you to me, I can’t complain
City bus, commuter train, take us home again

Asking For A Friend
03:39
|
|||
Too long out of circulation, time to change the situation
Something new, take a chance, open up, gonna dance
Not too old to care or even want to change
But out here on the floor things feel so strange
This okay–––should I pretend? See I’m asking for a friend
Who doesn't know why he can’t find someone who’s really right
Head where lights aren’t so bright to hide the gray, the pants too tight
Retro night Tuesday, Cars, the Clash, Echo, Siouxsie
Close my eyes and the years just melt away, then I spy this gothy beauty from the ray gun age
This okay–––should I pretend? See I’m asking for a friend
Who doesn't know why he can’t find someone who’s really right
This the start or we at the end? Cause I’m asking for a friend
Who has to know if you could be the one he really needs tonight
All we were and wanted is still inside
Hopeful kids in these weathered hides
This okay–––should I pretend? See I’m asking for a friend
Who doesn't know what he could find…
This the start or we at the end? Cause I’m asking for a friend
Who has to know if you will be the one he really needs tonight
Don’t look back yet, got big plans for the years ahead
With the right friend, you don’t need to pretend

Morning Crescent
04:04
|
|||
Get to the sun, out of this gray
A storm that never ends, dark clouds, crows, bad omens
Day after day, my luck runs down
Got to sort it all out
How to get by, not to give in
Find Diana’s sign, try it again
Come morning I hope, a crescent’s gonna show
First hand is done, try to roll
Want to win? You make your bets. But playing this makes no sense
Day after day, my luck runs down
I’ll try to figure it out
How to get by, not to give in
Find Diana’s sign, play it again
Come morning I know, crescent’s gonna show
How to rewind, do it again
My lucky sign, think I can win
Gardena or Reno? Crescent’s gonna show—and tell me where to go
Used to be fun, but lost my way
Bad odds, forgotten friends, broken ties I’ll never mend
Day after day, my time runs down
(You got to figure it out)
Already figured it out, already figured it out
How to get by, not to give in
Diana’s sign means play it again
Come morning I know, crescent’s gonna show
Time to rewind, do it again
My lucky sign, ready to win
Bell Gardens or Reno? Crescent’s gotta show—cause I don’t know where to go

Keep The Box
04:15
|
|||
Heading down this road, all day long
Don’t remember the last time I was at home
Things are kind of hazy now
Wish that I could see your face again, but
Something tells me to keep on driving
This day goes on and on, as
I watch rivers, mountains, sun
So, think of me sometimes, until I come back and if you find
Things I packed away, birthday cards, drawings, letters that you sent
Back in that early time, they mean a lot so
Please just keep the box
Have seen no other soul, on this trip
Think I’ll stop awhile, maybe get some rest
Up ahead’s a glen so green and lush
And if fall asleep I know
I will dream of you, and the
Time the doctor said that she
Could do no more for me
Well, think of me sometimes, when I don’t come back and if you find
Things I packed away, birthday cards, drawings, letters that you sent
The time I lost my mind, can’t always beat the clock, so
Hope you’ll keep the box, oh
Please just keep the box
